If your string lights worked last year but aren’t anymore, it can be down to a blown plug fuse, a loose bulb, or moisture ingress. 

Check the fuse first, then the cable and connections for damage. If they were stored tangled up, you should also check for pinched or kinked cable sections, which may have caused an internal wire break.

The most effective way to store string lights after Christmas or throughout the year is to wrap them loosely around a piece of cardboard about the length of your forearm, before securing it into place with a cable tie to stop it from moving. Then, keep your cardboard holders somewhere cool and dry until you need them again. 

You can also use crisp tubes with the bottom cut out or specialist reel storage for very long lengths – just avoid cramming them into boxes willy-nilly as this can damage bulbs.

An easy way to remember what you need is 100 LEDs per foot of tree height. So, a 6ft Christmas tree needs around 600 LEDs to stop it from looking lacklustre in your home. 

This can be achieved with one long set, or multiple smaller sets connected – it’s up to you.
