Step-by-step

Step 1 Shape Your Christmas Tree and Add a Tree Skirt

Make sure every branch has been carefully fluffed before you begin adding any of your red theme decorations. Properly shaping your tree at the beginning creates a fuller silhouette and gives every decoration somewhere to sit naturally.

To help, you can stand back every few minutes while fluffing to check how the tree is looking from a distance. This makes it much easier to spot any uneven areas that remain.

Once you’re happy with the shape, position your Red Faux Fur Diamond Tree Skirt around the base before you begin with the rest of the decorating. Adding your tree skirt first makes it much easier to place neatly around the stand, rather than trying to fit it underneath a fully decorated tree later.

Step 2 Start with Oversized Red Baubles

The largest decorations should usually be added to your tree first. So for this classic red look, begin with your 20cm Red Baubles in the Matt, Shiny and Glitter finishes.

Using baubles in all three finishes gives the tree far more depth compared to using one finish alone. The matt baubles soften the overall look, the shiny baubles reflect the candle LED lights and the glitter baubles add subtle festive sparkle throughout the design.

Because the Fir tree has a more natural profile, place two of the largest baubles on the lowest layer before adding three slightly higher up, where the tree naturally becomes wider. This helps the oversized decorations sit with the shape of the tree rather than overwhelming the lower branches.

Start with Oversized Red Baubles
Step 3 Layer Smaller Red Baubles Throughout the Tree

Now repeat the same process using both the 10cm and oversized 15cm red baubles.

Work gradually from the bottom towards the top, filling the spaces between the larger decorations rather than placing them randomly. Each size should bridge the gaps between the previous one, helping the tree feel balanced from every angle.

Layering different sized decorations is one of the easiest ways to make a Christmas tree look fuller without overcrowding the branches. By the end of this stage, the tree should have a clear structure, with the baubles evenly spaced before any berry picks or finishing details are added.

Step 4 Add Texture with Red Berry Picks

With the baubles in place, it’s time to introduce more texture and movement by adding a mixture of Red Berry Picks throughout the tree.

Position each pick slightly into the branches rather than placing it flat on the surface. Vary the angles as you work so the berries weave naturally through the foliage instead of sitting in a repeated pattern.

Using more than one style of berry pick helps create extra dimension and gives the tree a softer, more natural appearance. These rich red details also carry the colour through the tree, helping the classic red theme feel full and cohesive.

Add Texture with Red Berry Picks
Step 5 Fill Smaller Gaps with Red Berry Clusters

Once the berry picks are in place, add Red Berry Clusters to fill any remaining small spaces.

Because they are smaller than the picks, berry clusters are perfect for filling the tiny gaps that naturally appear once the main decorating is complete. They help soften the transitions between the baubles and berry picks while adding another layer of festive texture.

At this point, your Christmas tree should look well layered from every angle, with the baubles, berry picks and clusters working together as one complete design.

Step 6 Add Red Mini Bows to the Branch Tips

Now it’s time to introduce one of the signature details of this classic red Christmas tree. Using Red Mini Bows, tie them onto the outer tips of the branches throughout the tree.

Keeping the bows towards the ends of the branches helps create depth and allows them to stand out without disappearing into the foliage. Space them evenly around the tree so they draw the eye across the whole design.

This simple addition adds softness, charm and a more traditional feel, while also tying in beautifully with the oversized velvet bow topper added at the end.

Step 7 Finish the Branches with Red Glass Baubles

To help tie the whole look together, add Red Glass Baubles throughout the remaining branch tips.

Rather than hanging them deep inside the tree, position them closer to the outer tips. This simple technique gives the tree a fuller appearance, creates extra sparkle and allows the glass baubles to reflect the candle LED lights beautifully.

Mixing different shapes and finishes adds richness while keeping the colour palette simple and classic.

Step 8 Finish with an Oversized Red Velvet Bow

Complete the tree with an Oversized Red Velvet Bow to create a beautiful statement finish at the top of the tree.

Unlike the rest of the decorations, the oversized velvet bow should be added last. Placing it over the finished tree creates a more layered look, allowing the tails to weave naturally through the branches rather than decorating around them.

The Finished Look

This classic red Christmas tree combines oversized baubles, festive berry picks, red berry clusters, mini bows, glass decorations and a striking oversized velvet bow to create a look that’s full of warmth and timeless Christmas charm.

Decorating in layers allows each element to build naturally, from the oversized statement baubles through to the smallest finishing touches.

The dual candle LED lights bring the whole design to life, casting a warm, traditional glow that enhances the red tones and makes every decoration feel even richer.

Whether you’re creating a traditional family Christmas or simply love classic festive styling, this red Christmas tree look is elegant, welcoming and easy to recreate year after year.
