Discover in our video how to style red and burgundy decorations, creating a beautifully layered Christmas look with rich colour, natural texture and distinct character.

Step-by-step

Step 1 Shape Your Christmas Tree and Add a Tree Skirt

Make sure every branch has been carefully fluffed before you begin adding any decorations. Properly shaping your tree at the beginning creates a fuller silhouette and gives every bauble, berry pick and natural detail somewhere to sit comfortably.

To help, you can stand back every few minutes while fluffing to check how the tree is looking from a distance. This makes it much easier to spot any uneven areas that remain.

Once you’re happy with the shape, position your Red Faux Fur Diamond Tree Skirt around the base before the rest of the decorating. Adding your tree skirt first makes it much easier to place neatly around the stand, while creating a rich foundation that complements the warm red and burgundy colour palette.

Step 2 Start with Oversized Red and Burgundy Baubles

For this red and burgundy look, begin with your 20cm oversized baubles in red and burgundy matt, shiny, glitter and velvet finishes.

Position these statement decorations mainly throughout the lower two-thirds of the tree, leaving enough space between them for the berries, pinecones and natural details you’ll add later. Alternate the colours, finishes and shapes as you work so similar styles are not clustered too closely together.

Step 3 Layer 15cm Oversized Baubles Throughout the Tree

Now repeat the same process using your 15cm oversized baubles in the same mix of red and burgundy finishes.

Position them between the larger decorations, extending the design slightly higher while beginning to fill some of the larger gaps left in the previous step. Continue alternating colours, finishes and shapes so every section feels balanced without looking too uniform.

Step 4 Fill Smaller Spaces with 10cm Baubles

Complete the main bauble layer by adding your 10cm red and burgundy baubles throughout the tree.

Use these smaller decorations to fill the spaces between the 15cm and 20cm oversized baubles, with a little more focus towards the upper half where smaller decorations sit more naturally. At this stage, the tree should have a clear structure while still leaving space for the berries, pinecones and natural twigs.

Step 5 Add Texture with Red Mixed Berry Picks

With the bauble foundation complete, it’s time to introduce more texture and movement using Red Mixed Berry Picks.

Position the berry picks in the larger spaces between the baubles, allowing the stems to extend naturally outwards from the branches. Their varied berry sizes help soften the structured placement of the baubles while reinforcing the woodland feel of the design.

Distribute the picks evenly throughout the tree, weaving rich red colour through the arrangement without covering the oversized decorations beneath.

Step 6 Add Natural Pinecones

Before adding the final berry details, tuck pinecones throughout the tree to strengthen the woodland feel.

Position them slightly into the branches, nestling them between the oversized baubles and berry picks so they peek through the foliage rather than sitting too prominently on the surface.

Distribute the pinecones evenly from top to bottom, varying their direction and spacing to keep the arrangement looking natural. Their earthy texture softens the richness of the red and burgundy decorations, adding warmth and a more rustic festive finish.

Step 7 Layer with Deep Red Berry Picks

Next, add Deep Red Berry Sprays throughout the tree to create a richer backdrop of colour.

Unlike the brighter mixed berry picks, these darker berry stems can sit slightly deeper within the branches. Work them between the oversized baubles and brighter berry sprays so the deeper red tones subtly peek through from behind.

Although they are one of the quieter elements in the design, the deep red berry picks add depth and help layer the different berry tones together, giving the tree a fuller, woodland-inspired appearance.

Step 8 Fill with Red Mixed Berry Sprays

Now add Red Mixed Berry Sprays to build fullness and continue the layered berry effect.

Concentrate most of the sprays through the upper half of the tree, tucking them between the branches so they extend gently outwards around the oversized baubles and pinecones. Then place a few additional sprays through the lower branches to mirror the look above and keep the design balanced from top to bottom.

Step 9 Add Natural Twigs for a Woodland Finish

Finish the tree by adding natural twigs gathered from the garden
throughout the branches to create the distinctive woodland shape of this look.

Work the twigs generously from top to bottom, tucking them between the baubles, berries and pinecones so they feel naturally woven into the design. Vary the length, direction and depth of each twig to keep the arrangement looking organic rather than too neat.

Around the outer edge of the tree, allow selected twigs to extend just beyond the profile of the branches. This creates a soft, natural silhouette while adding movement and texture without making the tree appear too spiky.

The Finished Look

This red and burgundy Christmas tree combines baubles, rich berry picks, pinecones and natural twigs to create a warm, woodland-inspired festive look.

The mix of matt, shiny, glitter and velvet finishes gives the tree depth, while the natural accents soften the overall design and make the finished tree feel rich, full and inviting. Whether you’re styling a cosy living room, hallway or statement festive display, this red and burgundy Christmas tree theme brings together classic colour, rustic texture and woodland charm for a look that feels beautifully festive and easy to recreate.
