Step-by-step

Step 1 Shape Your Christmas Tree and Add a Tree Skirt

Make sure every branch has been carefully fluffed before you begin adding any decorations. Properly shaping your tree at the beginning creates a fuller silhouette and gives every bauble, flower and pick somewhere to sit naturally.

To help, you can stand back every few minutes while fluffing to check how the tree is looking from a distance. This makes it much easier to spot any uneven areas that remain.

Once you’re happy with the shape, position your Navy Faux Fur Diamond Tree Skirt around the base before the rest of the decorating. Adding your tree skirt first makes it much easier to place neatly around the stand, while complementing the rich navy tones used throughout the design.

Step 2 Start with 20cm Navy Velvet Baubles

The largest decorations should usually be added to your tree first. So for this navy velvet look, begin with your 20cm navy oversized velvet baubles, using a mixture of traditional, ribbed and spiral shapes.

Distribute them across the whole tree, taking them towards the top rather than concentrating every larger decoration around the bottom. Vary their positioning as you work, placing some deeper into the greenery and allowing others to sit more prominently towards the front.

Step 3 Layer 15cm Navy Velvet Baubles Throughout the Tree

Next, repeat the same process with your 15cm navy oversized velvet baubles, again using a mixture of traditional, ribbed and spiral shapes.

Work these around the 20cm baubles, filling the spaces between them and continuing the navy velvet texture throughout the tree. Keep varying the shapes and positioning so the arrangement feels balanced without becoming too uniform.

Step 4 Fill the Greenery with Navy Poinsettias

Once your base bauble layer is in place, begin filling the remaining greenery with a mixture of navy velvet artificial poinsettias, 30cm navy artificial poinsettias and navy glitter artificial poinsettias.

Spread the different sizes and finishes throughout the tree, using the larger poinsettias to fill more substantial areas of greenery and the smaller flowers to work into tighter spaces.

Avoid creating an obvious pattern. Instead, allow the flowers to sit naturally between the velvet baubles, carrying them from the bottom of the tree right through to the top. The combination of velvet and glitter adds another layer of texture while beginning to introduce the subtle silver detailing that will run throughout the finished design.

Step 5 Add Navy Glass Baubles

Next, add navy glass baubles throughout the tree, concentrating many of them towards the outer branch tips.

Their glossy finish creates a beautiful contrast against the soft velvet decorations and catches the warm lights as you move around the tree. Allow them to hang naturally from the branch tips rather than tucking every decoration deep into the greenery.

Scatter them throughout the whole tree, using them to bring smaller points of navy into the spaces between the larger baubles and poinsettias.

Step 6 Add Silver Glitter Leaf Stems

To introduce contrast, take your silver glitter leaf picks and cut them down into individual stems before adding them throughout the tree.

Separating the stems allows you to distribute the silver more naturally, rather than placing each pick as one large decoration. Tuck them among the navy baubles and poinsettias, varying their direction so some leaves sit deeper in the tree while others extend slightly further out.

The silver glitter leaves help lift the rich navy palette, adding sparkle and contrast while tying in with the glitter detailing from the poinsettias.

Step 7 Layer Smaller Navy Velvet Baubles

Next, add smaller navy velvet baubles throughout the tree to build another layer of texture.

Scatter them between the existing decorations, placing some towards the branch tips and tucking others slightly deeper among the poinsettias, glass baubles and silver foliage. Avoid spacing them too evenly; instead, use them to fill smaller gaps and create natural points of navy throughout the design.

Step 8 Finish with Navy Firework Sprays

To complete the tree, cut your Navy Firework Sprays into smaller individual sections before placing them throughout the branches.

Use these to fill any remaining gaps, alternating the direction and depth as you work. Nestle some deeper into the tree, tuck others among the baubles and poinsettias, and allow selected pieces to sit slightly further forward.

Spread them across the whole tree, including towards the top, so the navy colour and delicate texture continue through every part of the design. This final layer adds movement, detail and fullness to the finished look.

The Finished Look

This navy velvet Christmas tree combines oversized velvet baubles, navy poinsettias, glass decorations, silver glitter foliage and firework sprays to create a rich, dramatic festive look.

Decorating in layers allows each element to build naturally, from the statement velvet baubles through to the floral details, silver accents and smaller finishing decorations. The contrast between soft navy velvet, glossy glass and sparkling silver foliage gives the tree depth, while the firework sprays add movement and texture from top to bottom.

This navy velvet Christmas tree theme creates a luxurious centrepiece that feels elegant, detailed and beautifully festive.
