Beautifully decorated Christmas trees start with proper shaping. Make sure every branch has been carefully fluffed before you begin adding any decorations. Properly shaping your artificial Christmas tree at the beginning creates a fuller silhouette and gives every decoration somewhere to sit naturally.

To help, you can stand back every few minutes while fluffing to check how the tree is looking from a distance. This makes it much easier to spot any uneven areas that remain.

Once you’re happy with the shape, add your tree collar before the rest of the decorating. It’s much easier now than trying to fit it underneath a fully decorated tree later.

The largest decorations should usually be added to your tree first. So for the all Gold style, begin with adding our oversized Gold Matt Baubles, oversized Gold Gloss Baubles and oversized Gold Glitter Baubles, all in 20cm.

Using baubles in all three finishes gives the tree far more depth compared to using one finish alone. The matt baubles soften the overall look, the shiny baubles reflect the warm white lights on the tree and the glitter baubles catch the light and add subtle sparkle throughout the design.

While adding the baubles, space them evenly around the lower third of the tree. Because the bottom of the Christmas tree is its widest point, it suits the largest decorations. Starting here also creates a strong foundation for everything you’ll add later.

Now repeat exactly the same process using both the 10cm and oversized 15cm gold baubles.

Work gradually from the bottom towards the top, filling the spaces between the larger decorations rather than placing them randomly. Think of decorating in layers rather than adding everything at once. Each size should bridge the gaps between the previous one, creating balance throughout the tree.

This layering technique is one of the easiest ways to make a Christmas tree look fuller, while still keeping the design elegant and balanced. By the end of this stage, the tree should have a clear structure, with the baubles evenly spaced before any foliage or sprays are added.

Using our Gold Leaf Christmas Tree Sprays and Gold Glitter Berry Christmas Tree Sprays, place them into the larger gaps throughout the tree.

Angle the sprays slightly upwards and outwards rather than placing them straight across the branches. This helps them look like they’re part of the tree itself.

The sprays instantly soften the look, break up the larger areas of greenery and introduce movement throughout the design, making the finished tree appear much more natural and professionally styled.

Once the large sprays are in place, it’s time to work on the finer details. Using two different styles from our smaller gold leaf Christmas tree sprays, trim each spray into smaller individual stems before placing them throughout the tree.

Cutting sprays into smaller pieces is a common styling method and allows you to fill awkward spaces without forcing full stems into smaller gaps.

With the main foliage complete, add Gold Berry Clusters to fill any remaining small spaces. These little finishing touches help soften the transitions between baubles and foliage while adding another layer of texture throughout the tree.

Because they’re much smaller than the sprays, the berry clusters are perfect for filling the tiny gaps that naturally appear once the main decorating is complete.

At this point, your Christmas tree should look well layered from every angle, with every decoration working together to create a balanced and luxurious finish.

To help tie the whole design together, add gold glass baubles throughout the tree. Rather than hanging them deep inside the branches, position them close to the outer tips.

This simple technique instantly gives the tree a fuller appearance, creates more sparkle and adds another level of visual interest.

Finish the tree by using more of the Gold Leaf Christmas Tree Sprays added previously to create an elegant Christmas tree topper.

Simply gather together two or three sprays, depending on how full you’d like the topper to look. If you'd like to keep them close together, you can secure them with a cable tie before inserting them down through the centre of the top branch.
