Step 1

Shape Your Christmas Tree and Add a Tree Collar

Make sure every branch of your 7 ft Pre-Lit Highland Fir Christmas Tree has been carefully fluffed before you begin adding any decorations. Properly shaping your tree at the beginning creates a fuller silhouette and gives each bauble garland somewhere to sit naturally.

To help, you can stand back every few minutes while fluffing to check how the tree is looking from a distance. This makes it much easier to spot any uneven areas that remain.

Once you’re happy with the shape, position your Espresso Velvet Tree Collar around the base before the rest of the decorating. The deep espresso shade introduces the first of the coffee tones and creates a rich foundation for the velvet decorations used throughout the tree.

Step 2

Intertwine Your Velvet Bauble Garlands

Take your Espresso, Mocha and Latte Velvet Bauble Garlands and lay them out side by side before adding them to the tree.

Loosely intertwine the three colours together, almost plaiting the garlands by weaving each shade over and under the others as you work along the length. Avoid pulling them too tightly together, as keeping the garlands loose allows the different colours and bauble sizes to spread more naturally once they are positioned on the tree.

The number of garlands needed will depend on the height and width of your Christmas tree, as well as how many times you want the garland to sweep around it.

As a guide, take a piece of string and position it around the tree in the same you plan to add the bauble garland. Once you’re happy with the placement, measure the string to give you a clearer idea of how many garlands you may need.

Step 3

Position Your First Bauble Garland

Begin at the bottom of the tree and work upwards. Starting from the bottom makes it easier to establish the angle and spacing that the remaining garlands will follow.

Position your first intertwined garland across the lower section of the tree, allowing it to run at a gentle diagonal rather than straight across. Spend a little time getting this first section right, adjusting the angle until you’re happy with how it sits among the branches.

This first garland acts as your guide for the rest of the tree, so it is worth stepping back and checking the overall angle before moving on.

Step 4

Continue the Garlands Up the Tree

Once the first garland is in place, continue adding the remaining intertwined garlands, working your way upwards.

Follow the same diagonal direction, paying close attention to the spacing between each sweep. Try to keep the distance fairly consistent while allowing the garlands to follow the natural shape of the tree.

Step back regularly as you work. Looking at the tree from a distance makes it much easier to see whether one section is sitting too close to another or whether the angle needs adjusting.

Continue repositioning the garlands until the sweeps feel balanced from the bottom of the tree through to the top, while still leaving plenty of the Highland Fir’s greenery and warm lights visible between them.

Step 5

Create a Velvet Bauble Pick Tree Topper

Finish the tree by creating a coordinating topper using Espresso, Mocha and Latte Velvet Bauble Picks.

Insert the picks into the top of the tree at varying heights and angles, mixing the three coffee shades as you work. Fan the stems outwards rather than keeping them tightly grouped together, creating a fuller shape at the top of the tree.

Continue adding and adjusting the picks until the three colours feel evenly distributed and the topper flows naturally into the bauble garlands below.
