When is the Best Time to Put Up Your Christmas Tree?

When is the Best Time to Put Up Your Christmas Tree?

John Rushton |

Everybody tends to have a different opinion when it comes to when you should put your Christmas tree up, and it will often depend on a multitude of factors that affect your life.

Tradition

For those who want to stick with the traditional route, generally, the Christmas tree would be erected on the first day of advent which beings on the fourth Sunday before Christmas.

Seasonal

Others prefer to put their tree in November after the Halloween period has passed and enjoy the festivities for months before the actual day.

Some prefer to put the tree up on December 1st, which marks the first day of winter for many.

Real vs Artificial

This is more of a practical choice. If you have an artificial tree, your Christmas tree can be erected much earlier than if it were a real tree.

If you have chosen to use a real tree this Christmas, then you are limited in when you can put your Christmas tree up. Of course, it will depend on what species of Christmas tree you have chosen, but in general, you will have about three weeks before your tree begins to wilt and die.

Having an appropriate tree stand and keeping the trunk of the tree in water constantly will extend the length at which your real Christmas tree will last, as will keep the tree away from indoor heat sources.

When do you have time?

It seems pretty obvious, but an important question to ask yourself is when do you have the time to put up your Christmas tree? At the end of the day, you need to put up your tree when it best suits you, so don’t feel to rushed to get your tree up if you’re rushed of your feet, the holidays can be stressful enough without the added pressure of erecting and decorating your Christmas tree.

Holidays

This will depend on which country you live in and what religion you follow. This is less important for those of us in Britain, but for those who live in the United States of America, there are several holidays during this festive period, and many choose to wait until after Thanksgiving is over before they decide to put up their tree.

Do You Plan on Hosting Guests?

Suppose you plan to host family and friends at any point over the festive period. In that case, you may wish to have the tree up and decorated in time for their arrival, or you may wish to wait until they arrive and use the chance to do it together, start off the festivities together in a sense.
